Sidewalk Maintenance

Northbrook Sidewalk Maintenance Policy

(As recommended to the Council by the Road Supervisor on December 18, 2006 and adopted on the same date)

To start maintaining the sidewalks in Northbrook, starting December 21, 2006, until a by-law is established.  Sidewalks shall be maintained during normal working hours.  The objective is to begin sidewalk cleaning as soon as possible after a storm has ended – normally within 36 hours.

These sidewalks are:

#1 either blanket sanded or spot sanded as conditions warrant when snowfalls are less than 8cm.

#2  plowed and blanket sanded or spot sanded as conditions warrant when snowfalls exceed 8cm.

#3 however, in the event of heavy snowfalls or extreme ice, an initial pass will be made to allow access. In certain circumstances when sidewalks are located on both sides of a street. Township may choose to only maintain the sidewalk on one side of the street. This decision is based on location, safety issues for pedestrians/vehicles and snow accumulations in that area.

G:

Commercial Development Incentive

Effective May 1, 2004, all building/plumbing permit fees for commercially assessed properties will be waived as an incentive for economic development in Addington Highlands.  This will continue indefinitely.  Inspections and applications will remain necessary however, the fees will be waived.  Call the Township Office at 336-2286 for more details.
